Monday 26 oktober 2009 Barcelona squatters demonstrate at dutch consulate against new dutch anti- squat law: today,a group of 60 squatters from Barcelona held a one hour demonstration in front of the dutch consulate to protest the new anti-squatting law With slogans and banners in Spanish, English and dutch, short speeches and making noise, the barcelona squatters expressed their solidarity with dutch squatters and their stuggle for a dignified existence. for the creation of freespaces such as social centers, squatbars,concertplaces,festivals ,freetekno,art and underground culture,theatre,workshops,and outerparliamentary actions for refugees,women, animal rights, the environment, etc. etc…. The law that was passed by dutch parliament on 15 oktober 2009 will make all squatting a criminal offense, punishable up to 2 jears and eight months in prison, turning thousands of people living in squats into criminals, and subject to immediate eviction Even though the new law has yet to pass through the first house, it is to be expected to come in to effect on the first of januari 2010 The demonstration ended with the promise: well be back!
